Opportunities like this are rare. The Fairhaven is a historically significant building originally designed by O’Neil Ford, one of Texas’s most celebrated architects. Over the course of his distinguished career, Ford earned national acclaim—becoming a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects in 1960, receiving an appointment to the National Council of the Arts by President Lyndon Johnson, and uniquely being declared a “National Historic Landmark” by the Council in 1974—the only individual ever to receive that designation.
Originally constructed in 1963 as a senior care facility, The Fairhaven opened its doors to residents in 1965. It is ideally located just one block from Denton’s Historic District, a few blocks from Texas Woman’s University, and near several local churches. After its closure in 2007, the building remained vacant and fell into disrepair.
Our team undertook a complete restoration of the property, preserving its architecturally significant exterior while fully modernizing the interior. The rehabilitation included 47 residential units and an expanded amenity package, allowing us to deliver a fully renewed community asset that respects its historic roots.
The Fairhaven now stands as a one-of-a-kind property—combining rich architectural heritage with modern comfort and accessibility. It has been warmly embraced by the Denton community and remains a proud symbol of thoughtful preservation and innovative redevelopment.
